- # ON SIDE 2 OF YOUR START DISK
- # GET CLICKING WITH YOUR ST
- # PREPARE START PROGRAM DISK
- #***********************************************************
- # ATTENTION START READERS
- #***********************************************************
- # Due to a bug in our formatting routines, the menu
- #program is unable to Prepare a disk directly from files on
- #the back side of your START disk. In order to access these
- #files, you must follow these special instructions:
- # 1) Format a single-sided disk for backup.
- # 2) Click on the "Backup START Disk" button.
- # 3) Select the option to back up Side 2 of your START disk.
- # 4) Click on Backup.
- # This will put the contents of Side 2 of your START
- #disk onto one single-sided disk. Next, use the "Prepare
- #Disk" button and select the file you wish to use, for
- #example, SpinWheel. The program will prompt you to
- #insert your Side 2 disk into Drive A.
- # Because of these special instructions the option to
- #back up both sides of your disk onto one double-sided disk
- #is not available this issue.
- #
- # Features on Side 1 of your START disk this month:
- #
- # CAD-3D VERSION 1.0 by Tom Hudson
- # Computer Aided Design is used by architects and engineers
- # to quickly and easily build life-like drawings of their
- # products. Dedicated systems sell for tens of thousands
- # of dollars, but here is a powerful package for the price
- # of your START Disk. CAD3D.PRG runs in medium or high
- # resolution; CAD3D.RSC must be in the same folder. Four
- # sample files are included: ANTIC.3D, BLOCK.3D, FAUCET.3D
- # and START.3D. READ_ME.TXT explains how to view them to
- # best advantage.
- #
- # CAD-3D ANIMATOR by Tom Hudson
- # This companion to our feature program allows you to see
- # your 3D creations in motion! ANIMATE.PRG runs in medium
- # and high resolution; ANIMATE.RSC must be in the same
- # folder. A high and a medium example (SCENE.HI and
- # SCENE.LO respectively) are included.
- #
- # COLLEGE SPREADSHEETS by Christoph Herd
- # Use this LDW Power Spreadsheet template to calculate your
- # investment strategy to finance your children's education.
- # You need the LDW Power Spreadsheet program to use the
- # template, which is in the file COLLEGE.LDW.
- #
- # GFA BASIC WIPES & DISSOLVES by Carlos Tirado
- # These GFA BASIC 2.0 routines will give your programs the
- # slick look of a professional effects package. Just like
- # the movies, cut to the next scene by unrolling a frame,
- # or closing an iris, or sliding in a frame from the side.
- # The actual code for wipes and dissolves is in WIPES.LST.
- # We've included a demo and its code, SUSLSHOW.PRG and
- # SUSLSHOW.LST respectively. The five picture files are
- # for use in the demo and must be in the same folder as
- # the demo. Runs in all resolutions.
- #
- # MOUNTAIN SOLITAIRE by Michael C. Gilbert
- # We present a special game this month, by Cinko author
- # Michael C. Gilbert. Mountain Solitaire is a devilishly
- # difficult card game; none of the START editors has scored
- # the maximum points, nor can consistently reach the top of
- # the mountain. MOUNTAIN.PRG runs in medium resolution;
- # the files DECK1.PI2, DECK2.PI2 and MOUNTAIN.RSC must be
- # in the same folder as the program.
- #
- # SPINWHEEL by Ian Lepore and Pete Ewing
- # This program probably reminds you of a favorite childhood
- # game, which shall remain nameless. Well, what can be
- # done on paper can be done better on the ST. Play with
- # SPINWEEL.PRG and prove it for yourself. Runs in any
- # resolution; requires that SPINWEEL.RSC be in the same
- # folder.
- #
- #Note: All programs on your START disk are copyrighted
- #and are for your own personal use. You may not freely
- #distribute programs or files on your START disk unless
- #specifically indicated.

- .
- # On Side 2 of your START disk this month:
- #
- # CLIP-ART SAMPLER by various artists
- # Here are 10 pieces of clip art to illustrate the clip-art
- # review by Dan Fruchey. These are usually incorporated
- # into a publication, but for those of you who don't have
- # the necessary desktop publishing packages, five have
- # been translated into DEGAS format (.PI3). There are also
- # two bit-mapped files (.IMG) and three metafiles (.GEM).
- # READ_ME.TXT explains in more detail.
- #
- # MOUNTAIN SOLITAIRE SOURCE CODE by Michael C. Gilbert
- # If you want a lesson on how to write your own slick card
- # game, or if you want to customize this one, then the
- # source to this month's game feature is what you need.
- # Written in Laser C version 1.0; files MOUNTAIN.C and
- # MOUNTAIN.H.
- #
- # MYSTIC REALM SOURCE CODE by John Lince
- # We sort of (blush) forgot the source code in January when
- # we published this game. We produced January's issue in
- # the middle of October, so it's the earthquake's fault.
- # Mystic Realm was written in GFA BASIC 2.0.
- #
- # SOPWITH CAMEL DEMO by Dave Stuart
- # Anyone who regularly reads the "Peanuts" comic strip
- # knows this plane! The airworthy (versus doghouse)
- # version of it is available on Antic Software's Vintage
- # Aircraft Design Disk. This is a high rez demo of that
- # object. It runs under ANIMATE3.PRG, which requires that
- # SCAMEL_H.DLT and the picture file SCAMEL_H.PI3 be in the
- # same folder. READ_ME.TXT gives more details.
- #
- # SPINWHEEL SOURCE CODE by Ian Lepore and Pete Ewing
- # The C language is infiltrating the Atari community. Here
- # at START we're seeing more submissions written in this
- # powerful, high-level language, originally developed for
- # UNIX computers. We recommend the source to SpinWheel
- # written in Sozobon C, which demonstrates some of the
- # best features of the language. Seventeen files total:
- # five header files (.H), eight C source files (.C), one
- # assembler file (.S), and three compilation files
- # (SPINWEEL.LNK, SPINWEEL.MAK and SPINWEEL.RSD).
- #
- # X-10 CONTROLLER UPDATE by Howard MacOdrum
- # A high rez version of this household appliance control
- # software was run last month. MacOdrum was kind enough
- # to write a medium rez version, which we offer here. Not
- # all the necessary files are included; this GFA BASIC 3.0
- # program requires the run-only BASIC interpreter included
- # with the high rez version in the February 1990 issue.
- # All files (DARKROOM.DFN, DARKROOM.GFA and DARKROOM.RSC)
- # should be in the same directory. READ_ME.TXT explains
- # in more detail.
